We’ve been engaged to design a new house on a bush covered site with views over Bream Bay. Using the techniques of Pattern Language in which the clients were well versed , we have developed a design that responds to their particular needs for an informal house . The house steps down the site in response to the contours and rather than opening whole house to the view we have developed a philosophy of “going to the view” with window elements carefully sited, window seats, and openings on circulation routes that catch glimpses of the bush all around.
